‘Crorepati’ chief engineer in Vigilance net spent Rs 13 lakh on air travel

The Odisha Vigilance Directorate has uncovered massive disproportionate assets during raids on Rajesh Chandra Mohanty, the Additional Chief Engineer of Dam Safety in Bhubaneswar. Investigators found that Mohanty had spent a staggering ₹13.47 lakh on air travel alone between 2021 and 2025, a figure currently under high-level verification.

The anti-corruption agency raided six locations, seizing ₹6.23 lakh in cash hidden in envelopes and detecting bank deposits exceeding ₹1.70 crore. His properties include a palatial three-story building in Bhubaneswar, a sprawling farmhouse on 1.71 acres in Dhenkanal, and eight valuable plots, marking one of the state's largest graft crackdowns this year.
